The one thing we do store, and why it is not a cookie

The planner and the document checklist save your progress in your browser’s localStorage, so that ticking a box survives a refresh. It is a feature you asked for by using it, it never leaves your device, and we cannot read it. Clearing your browser data removes it. No identifier is created and nothing is sent anywhere.

The one cookie: dashboard sign-in

If you have been given access to one of the in-build dashboards and enter its password, we set a cookie named kl_dash. It holds only an expiry time and a signature proving we issued it, lasts 12 hours, and exists so you are not asked for the password on every page. It is strictly necessary for a service you asked for, so it needs no consent banner; nobody who does not sign in ever receives it.

What we do not do

• · No advertising or retargeting tags. No Meta pixel, no Google Ads tag.
• · No third-party analytics running at present.
• · No device fingerprinting. We do not build an identifier from your browser, fonts, screen or hardware.
• · No social-media embeds that phone home before you click them.
• · No selling or sharing of personal data with data brokers.

What we do look at

We look at aggregate, non-identifying information that arrives with an ordinary web request and is not stored on your device — which page was requested, and which site referred you. That tells us that a guide is being read, or that people arrive from a particular search. It does not tell us who you are, and it is not joined up into a profile of one person.

If that changes

We may add privacy-preserving, cookieless analytics so we can see which guides are worth expanding. If we do, it will be named here before it runs.

If we ever add anything that stores or reads something on your device for a purpose that is not strictly necessary — an analytics cookie, an attribution identifier, or a fingerprint — then:

• · we will ask first, with a real choice, and nothing non-essential will be set before you answer;
• · refusing will be as easy as accepting — one click, same prominence, no dark patterns, no “legitimate interest” toggles buried two screens down;
• · you will be able to change your mind from this page at any time;
• · this page will list each one — what it is, who sets it, what it is for and how long it lasts — before it goes live, not after.

Your browser settings

You can block or clear storage for any site from your browser’s privacy settings. Because we do not rely on cookies, blocking them will not break anything here — though clearing site data will reset your planner progress, since that is what it is stored in.
